AXISBANK (AXISBANK) ATM Straddle: What It Shows

The idea in one line

An at-the-money (ATM) straddle is one call and one put at the strike closest to the current price, for the same expiry. Its combined premium is the price the market charges for a move in either direction until expiry.

How it is calculated here

For each session we add the closing price of the call and the put at the same strike, from NSE end-of-day data. In rolling mode the strike is the one nearest the forward price that session (the same-expiry futures close, or put-call parity when no such future exists), so the chart always follows the ATM strike. You can also fix one strike from the table.

Priced-in move

The straddle premium is a rough guide to the move the options market is pricing until expiry. If the AXISBANK ATM straddle costs 250 points, the market is pricing roughly a 250-point move either way. The breakeven range is the strike plus and minus the premium.

How Traders Read the AXISBANK Straddle Chart

Steady decline

As expiry approaches, time value decays and the straddle usually falls even if AXISBANK does not move. A smooth downward slope is time decay at work.

Rising straddle

A straddle that rises is pricing more movement: either AXISBANK moved sharply, implied volatility rose, or both. Rises before results or policy events are common.

Rolling against fixed

The rolling line shows the cost of the ATM straddle whatever the price did. A fixed strike shows how one particular straddle position would have been valued day by day, which includes the effect of the price moving away from that strike.

Comparing expiries

Switch the expiry to compare a weekly straddle with a monthly one. Longer expiries cost more in points but decay more slowly per day.

Limitations

End-of-day only

One point per session from closing prices. Intraday swings in the straddle are not shown.

Not a strategy recommendation

This page describes how straddle premium has moved. It does not suggest buying or selling a straddle, which can carry large losses.

Thin stock options

For less traded stocks, closing prices of individual options can be stale, which makes the straddle line jumpy.

AXISBANK Straddle Range on the Chart and the Backtest

Straddle under the candles

The straddle premium is drawn under AXISBANK candles with EMA 20, 50, 100 and 200, with spot ± today's straddle marked. The sentiment score reads a straddle that stays richer than time decay explains as fear (bearish), and one that melts faster as calm (bullish).

How accurate was the straddle?

Over two years of NSE data the expiry close landed inside spot ± the ATM straddle 58% of the time on NIFTY, 61% on BANKNIFTY and 60% on stocks, close to what option pricing implies. The typical move was about 80% of the straddle. It does not say which way.

AXISBANK ATM Straddle: Frequently Asked Questions

What is the AXISBANK ATM straddle price today?

It is shown in the summary card above: the call close plus the put close at the strike nearest the forward price, from the latest NSE end-of-day data for the selected expiry.

What does the straddle price tell me?

It is the total premium for an at-the-money call and put, and a rough measure of the move the market is pricing until expiry.

Why does the straddle fall as expiry nears?

Options lose time value as expiry approaches. Unless AXISBANK moves enough or volatility rises, the straddle premium shrinks every day.

What is the rolling ATM straddle?

A straddle whose strike is reset every session to the one nearest the forward price, so it always tracks the at-the-money options.

How is the breakeven range calculated?

Strike minus the straddle premium to strike plus the straddle premium. It is where a straddle bought at today's close would break even at expiry, before costs.

Why does this differ from intraday charts on other sites?

This page uses one closing value per session. Intraday charts show minute-by-minute prices, but their final value for the day should match the close shown here.
