What NIFTY Midcap Select Performance Shows
Returns over different periods
How much NIFTY Midcap Select has moved over 1 day, 1 week, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, 1 year and since the start of the year. Short periods show momentum; long periods show the trend investors actually lived through.
Candles and EMAs
Each candle is one session: open, high, low and close. The lines are exponential moving averages over 20, 50, 100 and 200 sessions. The 200-day EMA is widely watched as the line between a long-term uptrend and downtrend.
Fall from peak
How far the index is below its highest level so far. It shows the size and length of every correction in the chart.
P/E ratio
Price divided by the combined earnings of the index's companies, as published by NSE. A higher P/E than usual means investors are paying more for each rupee of earnings. It moves slowly and says little about the next few weeks.
India VIX
The market's expected volatility of NIFTY over the next 30 days, worked out from option prices, in % a year. It rises when investors pay up for protection.

What Our Backtest Found
Above or below the 200-day EMA
From October 2023 to October 2026, NIFTY 50 was higher 20 sessions later on 64% of the days it closed above its 200-day EMA, against 54% when it closed below. The gap is small and the below-EMA days came in only 6 stretches.
After a 10% fall
Days when NIFTY 50 closed 10% or more below its highest close so far (101 days, 6 episodes) were followed by a higher index 60 sessions later 90% of the time (+5.6% on average). Six episodes are far too few to rely on; falls can go much deeper than 10%.
How to use it
Trend and drawdown describe the market's condition. Treat the history as context for risk, not as a buy or sell signal. For education only.

That the index is above its long-term exponential average, which describes a long-term uptrend. On our data it has not been a precise timing tool.
