Band hits: NSE's daily list of securities that hit their price band (bh file in the PR zip). Band: from NSE's security list (sec_list.csv) saved before the session; for older sessions it is inferred from the move. Closed at band: the close equalled the day's high (upper) or low (lower) and sat at the band limit. For education only; not investment advice.

What Price Band Hitters Shows

Price bands (circuits)

NSE sets a daily price band of 2%, 5%, 10% or 20% for most stocks: the price cannot move beyond the previous close plus or minus that band in a session. Stocks with futures and options have no fixed band; they use wider dynamic limits instead.

Upper circuit and lower circuit

A stock hits its upper circuit when it touches the top of its band, and its lower circuit at the bottom. When the stock stays locked at the limit, there are only buyers (upper) or only sellers (lower) at that price, and many orders stay unfilled.

Closed at band

Touching the band during the day is common; closing locked at it is stronger. We flag stocks whose close equalled the day's high (or low) at the band limit.

In a row

How many sessions in a row the stock hit the same band. Long runs of upper circuits are common in small, illiquid stocks and are a reason for extra care, not a sign of quality.

How We Calculate It

Data

NSE's official band-hit file for every session, the capital-market bhavcopy for prices and volumes, and NSE's security list for the band of each stock.

Why bands change

NSE and SEBI revise bands, and move stocks into trade-for-trade (series BE, BZ) or surveillance frameworks, to cool speculation. A smaller band usually marks a riskier stock.

What Our Backtest Found

Circuits tend to continue

Across 37,520 cases from January 2023 to October 2026, a stock that closed locked at its upper band opened higher the next session 87% of the time (average +3.3%), and a stock locked at its lower band opened lower 81% of the time (average -2.0%). Locked stocks are mostly small, thinly traded companies with 2% to 5% bands.

Why this is not a free lunch

When a stock is locked at the upper band there are almost no sellers, so buy orders at the close usually go unfilled; the next-day gain is mostly out of reach. Many such stocks are under exchange surveillance, and runs end abruptly. The numbers describe how band locks behave, not a trade.

How to use it

Use the list to see where speculation is concentrated and which stocks are under one-sided pressure. For education only, not a buy or sell call.

Price Band Hitters: Frequently Asked Questions

Which stocks hit the upper circuit today?

The table above lists every NSE stock that hit its upper or lower price band in the latest session, with its band size and whether it closed locked at the band.

What is the difference between price band and circuit?

They mean the same thing: the daily limit on how far a stock's price may move from the previous close. "Upper circuit" is the top of the band, "lower circuit" the bottom.

Can I buy a stock that is locked in the upper circuit?

Orders can be placed, but when a stock is locked at the upper band there are few or no sellers, so buy orders often stay unfilled. This page is for education only and does not recommend trades.

Why do F&O stocks not hit circuits?

Stocks in the F&O segment have no fixed price band; NSE applies dynamic price limits that widen in steps during the day.
