What the 52-Week High and Low List Shows

New 52-week highs

Stocks of NIFTY 50 that traded above their highest price of the past year during the session. A stock at a 52-week high has every holder of the past year sitting on a gain.

New 52-week lows

Stocks that traded below their lowest price of the past year. Many new lows mean weakness is spreading across the market.

Highs minus lows

The daily count of new highs minus new lows is a classic breadth measure. When the index rises but fewer stocks make new highs, the rise rests on fewer shoulders.

Distance from the 52-week high

How far each stock closed below its one-year high. The share of stocks within 5% of their high shows how many are near the top of their range; the share 20% or more below shows how many are in a deep drawdown.

How We Calculate It

Adjusted prices

NSE's own 52-week high and low are not adjusted for splits and bonuses. We adjust them: when NSE's previous close differs from our stored close by more than 3% (a corporate action), the history is rescaled. So a 1:2 bonus does not show up as a new 52-week low.

What Our Backtest Found

Spikes in new highs

From April 2024 to October 2026, sessions when the number of new 52-week highs was in the top 10% of the previous year (64 days in 9 episodes) were followed by a lower NIFTY 50 twenty sessions later 66% of the time (average -2.05% against +0.14% for all sessions). With only 9 episodes, and most of them near the 2024 market peak, this is a description of that period rather than a rule.

Spikes in new lows

Spikes in new lows (15 episodes) showed no clear edge either way.

Single stocks

A stock making a new 52-week high did about as well as the market afterwards on average (+0.48% over 20 sessions) but the median case lagged slightly. Stocks at new lows lagged over 60 sessions (median -3.5%). New highs and lows describe where a stock stands; for education only.

52 Week High / Low: Frequently Asked Questions

Which stocks hit a 52-week high today?

The table above lists every stock of NIFTY 50 that made a new 52-week high in the latest session, from NSE end-of-day data. Switch to new lows, or to NIFTY 50, NIFTY 500 or F&O stocks.

Is buying stocks at a 52-week high a good idea?

This page does not recommend any trade. Our backtest of NSE data shows how stocks did after a new 52-week high on average, but averages hide big differences between stocks.

Why does this list differ from NSE's 52-week high list?

NSE's list uses unadjusted prices and includes ETFs. Ours adjusts for splits and bonuses and covers stocks only (series EQ, BE, BZ).

What does a high number of new 52-week lows mean?

That selling has spread to many stocks. It describes the market's condition; on our data it has not been a reliable timing signal on its own.
